Get answers to common questions about Micro Braids.
With proper care Micro Braids typically last six to ten weeks. Longevity depends on hair growth, installation quality, and maintenance. Gentle cleansing, light moisturizing, and minimal manipulation help prolong the style while heavy oils or rough handling can cause frizz or early loosening.
When installed and removed properly, Micro Braids are protective and shouldn't cause damage. Tension, overly tight braiding, or leaving them too long increases risk. Choose an experienced stylist, avoid excessive pulling, and maintain scalp health to minimize breakage.
Sleep with a silk or satin scarf and use a satin pillowcase to reduce friction. Cleanse scalp gently weekly with diluted shampoo or spray, thoroughly dry, and apply light leave-in or oils to the scalp. Avoid heavy products and frequent manipulation.
Extensions can be incorporated during installation for added length or volume, but must be applied by a skilled stylist to avoid excess tension. Coloring pre-braided hair is risky; color is best applied to raw hair before braiding. Always consult your stylist for safe options.
Installation time varies by hair density, length, and braid size. Micro Braids are very small and detailed, so expect longer sessions—typically four to eight hours. Bring snacks, and plan for appointments accordingly; our stylists aim for comfort and precision throughout the process.
Removal should be gentle and unraveled braid by braid, ideally by a professional to avoid breakage. Plan removal after six to ten weeks; leaving braids too long increases matting risk. After removal, detangle carefully and follow with a deep conditioning treatment.
